Overview

The 13th Squadron 1/10th scale Hurricane is designed for builders and pilots who want a great all-around flying aircraft without sacrificing the scale looks of one of WWII’s most recognizable fighters. Its thick wing provides plenty of lift, giving the Hurricane very stable, smooth, and efficient flying characteristics with surprisingly little drag. It is easy to handle throughout the flight envelope and especially easy to land. Even in a tip stall, the recovery is quick and predictable. Depending on your flying style, flight times can range anywhere from approximately 5 to 13 minutes.

The Hurricane was also designed to give builders plenty of freedom in how far they want to take their model. It can be kept simple and lightweight for everyday flying or built with a variety of optional scale details. Scale panel lines are incorporated throughout the design, along with simulated stringers on the empennage and wing fairings that help recreate the distinctive shape and construction of the full-scale aircraft. Builders can take the detail even further with optional 3D-printed add-ons, functional flaps, landing gear bays, wooden antenna and mirror pieces, and sanded underside trailing edges. While the aircraft is based around the Hurricane Mk I, the design also gives builders the freedom to adapt their model toward other Hurricane variants if they choose.

The internal structure was designed with regular flying and handling in mind as well. A redesigned wing spar allows the wing to remain strong while keeping weight to a minimum, helping support both the durability and flying performance of the finished model.

Below you will find our Hurricane flight video, where we go over what to expect from the aircraft in the air, along with helpful flying tips, landing techniques, stall characteristics, and other things we have learned from flying the 13th Squadron Hurricane.

We encourage you to share your completed build by emailing photos to 13thsquadronbiz@gmail.com so it can be featured on our community page, inspiring other builders and showcasing what’s possible with the 13th Squadron Hurricane!
